Ruth Florence Weber Hanhauser, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died Sunday October 28 at her residence at Sunrise Assisted Living. She was born in Erie on February 9, 1919, the daughter of the late Eugene and Henrietta Buerrer Weber. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Bernard Hanhauser Jr., the love of her life and her best friend. Also, her brothers Joseph Weber, Herman Weber and Robert Weber and sisters Henriette ‘Sis’ Weber and Jean Weber Salchli.
She was survived by her five children and their families, Mariette H. McCarthy and husband Bruce of Alexandria, VA, and their children Ona L McCarthy and Leila J McCarthy; Frederck B Hanhauser III and wife Anne of Carlsbad California, and their children Frederick B Hanhauser IV, his wife Stephanie and child Avery and Gregory C Hanhauser; Martin E. Hanhauser Sr. and wife Catherine of State College, PA, and their children Jerilyn J. Deitch and husband Dennis and their children Caitlin and Ella Deitch, Martin E. Hanhauser Jr. and Andrew B. Hanhauser; Anne R. Hanhauser of Erie, PA; and John A. Hanhauser and wife Evelyn of Villanova, PA and their children Emily B. and Erik J. Hanhauser. Ruth is also survived by her beloved brothers-in-law Robert P Salchli of Harrisburg, PA, and Father Martin Hanhauser OFM and many nieces and nephews. She attended Saint Benedict Academy and Mercyhurst College and worked for the Erie Times-News as a writer with her own column called “The College Clan”. Besides her family, her interests were gardening, swimming, traveling and reading. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Red Cross and Shriners Hospital for Children.
Friends called at the Brugger Home for Funerals 1595 West 38th. St. on Friday, November 2nd, from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. and attended services there on Saturday at 9:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Luke Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery.
