Frank E. Scherrer, 87, a lifelong Erie resident, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening October 17, 2007 at the St. Vincent Health Center following a short illness. He was born in Erie on July 13, 1920 a son of the late Frank X. Scherrer and Mary Mello Scherrer.
Frank had worked at the GE for 20 years first as a crain operator and then in the tool crib and multi storage area retiring in 1984. Previously, he had worked at the Bucyrus Erie, Lovell Manufacturing, Erie Forge & Steel, and Talon Industries. He was an Army veteran of WW II serving as a T/5 in ordinance in the Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns.
He was a life member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and the Siebenbuerger Club. He had coached boys baseball for a number of years in the 1950’s, enjoyed floral gardening, fishing, bowling, games, and playing cards.
Survivors include 2 daughters, 2 sons, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years on December 26, 1997.
Friends called at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Sunday Oct 21st 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and were invited to prayer services there on Monday Oct 22nd at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:00 AM. Burial was in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505.
