Charles A. Dailey, Jr., 76, of Erie died at his home in Boynton Beach, Florida on Thursday, June 5, 2008. He was born in Erie on August 30, 1931, son of the late Charles A. Dailey, Sr. and Elizabeth S. Dailey.

He graduated from Cathedral Prepatory School in 1949. He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University in 1953. While at Georgetown he was a prominent member of the Golf Team. From 1954 through 1957 he served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy as head of the Naval Supply Department. He was General Assistant of Dailey’s Chevrolet, Inc. (formerly 1925 State Street) from 1948 until 1955, then President of Dailey’s Chevrolet. Subsequently he was President of Dailey Enterprises Inc. until the time of his death.

He was previously President and Executive Director of the Charles A. Dailey Foundation, a charitable organization for the benefit of the Erie community, founded by his father, Charles A. Dailey, Sr. He has been affiliated with Mercyhurst College for 43 years as its longest standing member of the Board of Trustees, Chair of budget and finance committees, coach of tennis, and numerous other positions. He was a coach of the 1976 Mercyhurst men’s tennis team that won the NAIA National Championship. He served on the Urban Coalition Job Opportunity and Manpower Development Task Force of Erie, the boards of St. Vincent Medical Center and Hamot Medical Center, the YMCA, and the First National Bank. His business associations included the Automotive Association of Erie, The Automotive Old Times, Inc., Erie Chamber of Commerce, National Automotive Dealers Association, Manufacturers Association of Erie, and the Pennsylvania Automotive Association. In 2001 he was inducted to the Order of Malta for his services rendered to Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Kahkwa Club, the Erie Club, the Aviation Club, the Southampton Ontario Tennis Club, the Erie Bridge Club, the Salmagundi Art Club (New York City), and the Delray Dunes Country Club (Boynton Beach, Florida). He was well known as an excellent golfer and counted the All Erie Championship of 1951 among his honors. He was a Silver Life Master bridge player and a collector of art and antiques.
