Merle E. Wood Funeral Home

The Wood Family has served the Erie community since 1923, as funeral directors as well as Coroners of Erie County. The Warren W. Wood Funeral Home originated on West 21st Street, between Peach and Sassafras Streets. Warren Wood was later joined by his son, Merle E. Wood, who has continued in the family business, now named the Merle E. Wood Funeral Home.

2008 marks our 85th anniversary year of service to the families of Erie County. Merle assumed leadership of the family funeral home in 1960; and in 1993 the Merle E. Wood Funeral Home relocated to its current home just a few blocks away, at 215 West 25th Street. The Wood Funeral Home now enjoys a unique business relationship with the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, where the Wood Funeral Home physically operates its business in a joint relationship with the Kloecker Family. Two Funeral Homes in one building, with separate attention given to the families each Funeral Home serves. The Merle E. Wood Funeral Home, conveniently located in central Erie, will accommodate your every need and detail with compassion and expertise from our dedicated staff. Our supervisor and funeral director, James Hodinko, known to the Erie community as a funeral director since 1979, has assisted the Wood Funeral Home since 1985. In 2000 Merle and Francis Kloecker appointed him supervisor of the Merle E. Wood Funeral Home, bringing his 28 years experience helping familes at a time it is most needed to the helm of the Wood Funeral Home.
